I’m Tired of the World’s Most Common Nutrient Deficiency.
What if you’re not Depressed ….
You’re Tired?
You’re Just Tired.
Could it be Iron Deficiency?
There are so many people with an undiagnosed (improperly assessed?) iron deficiency that it boggles my mind.
We (medical doctors, naturopathic doctors) are failing to diagnose iron deficiency far too often (including me up until about a year ago (2019).
This failure is a result of a combination of many problems, including but not limited to:
overly simplistic and outdated laboratory interpretations
quick, knee-jerk prescriptions (it’s easier to be lazy in our assessment)
an under-appreciation of “treatment hierarchies” (i.e. what to treat FIRST; correcting fundamental building blocks of healthy physiology before rushing to drugs etc.) Most of them are women, and many of them are ending up on drugs that may be causing more problems.
an over-reliance on single laboratory markers and “normal ranges” without the context of clinical signs and symptoms
The problem is the assessment.
Good assessments lead to better treatments.
As a result, it’s possible that we have an overly medicated (female) population who are likely iron-deficient, and it’s enough to get my blood boiling.
Spread the word. Share this information with your mothers, daughters, sisters, and doctors.
Have your iron PROPERLY assessed.
